Graphic of lighting zones
This shows a sample of the graphics used in “Darkness in Distress.”

This 45-minute presentation was developed for the general public by Kelly Beatty of Chelmsford, MA — and a former member of IDA’s Board of Directors. It provides a basic overview of light-pollution issues — with special emphasis on five negatively-affected themes: (1) loss of starry nights; (2) glare; (3) ecological harm; (4) human factors; and (5) energy waste.

The graphics are self-explanatory; there is no video or audio. This presentation could be successfully given by anyone with an interest in preserving dark skies. This version is in PDF form (12 MB) for ease of use. For a customizable PowerPoint version, or for a longer version with video clips, contact Kelly directly (kbeatty@darksky.org)
