This committee, chaired or co-chaired by the Communications Director, leads the chapter’s activities on public education about the importance of natural darkness at night for human health and safety, wildlife, energy conservation, and humanity’s heritage of the starry night sky, including:

  • Maintaining and improving the chapter website and maintaining a presence on X, Instagram, Facebook, BlueSky, and other social media as appropriate
  • Recruiting new active members of the chapter and of DarkSky International
  • Giving public presentations and speaking or staffing tables at other organizations’ events 
  • Training new and existing chapter members in the skills needed for these activities
  • Maintaining a stock of informational materials provided by DarkSky International
  • Developing materials specific to Massachusetts, such as brochures, slide decks, and exhibits 
  • Coordinating the chapter’s activities related to International Dark Sky Week each year
