This committee leads efforts by DarkSky Massachusetts to identify, promote, and advocate for special places in Massachusetts that are known for their dark skies or their importance for natural night-time experiences. Activities include:
- For the chapter website, maintain a list of such places with contact information and a page of resources on astro-tourism
- Pursue certification of dark sky places, such as Dark-Sky Parks, Dark-Sky Communities, Urban Night Sky Places, and DarkSky Approved Lodging
- Develop and maintain a publicly accessible dark sky database for the state, with data from suitably located sky quality meters
- Encourage members of the chapter and the public to provide observations to Globe at Night
