Come to IDA-MA’s Annual Meeting on Saturday, Sept. 7th

Roughly 10% of the IDA’s total membership is here in Massachusetts! So let’s get together to celebrate the second annual meeting of our Massachusetts IDA chapter — and to learn how we can move forward individually and collectively to combat light pollution.

Date/Time: The meeting and get-together is Saturday, September 7th, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m..

Location: Appalachian Mountain Club’s new headquarters at 10 City Square in Charlestown. It’s pictured below, and go here for directions and information on access.

The AMC’s offices are at 10 City Square in Charlestown, about ¼ mile from the U.S.S. Constitution.

All are invited to meet each other face-to-face, exchange ideas and experience, hear inspiring talks by top experts, and plan our activities and advocacy for the coming year. Light (not dark) refreshments will be provided.

Speakers include:
• Ruskin Hartley, IDA Executive Director, visiting from Tucson, AZ
• Rep. Sean Garballey (D-Arlington), co-sponsor of our pending dark-sky legislation
• Dr. Chuck Czeisler, Baldino Professor of Sleep Medicine, Harvard Medical School
• Cara Goodman, coordinator of LED streetlights program for Metropolitan Area Planning Commission

The event is free (even if you’re no longer an IDA member!), but please use this EventBrite link to make a reservation for the meeting. (Light refreshments will be served, and we need a head count for those.)

DID YOU KNOW that the AMC was founded by astronomer Edward Pickering in 1876, and that the AMC has a dark-sky-friendly lighting policy at its lodges and an extensive astronomy education program including dark skies?
